It has barely been two months since ‘The Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) suffered the first loss of his professional career in a gargantuan showdown against Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs). As soon as the hammer came down on his undefeated reign, talks began for a rematch between the two, which was later scheduled for December. While there has been no dearth of Fury’s comments claiming that his fight against Usyk was “too easy,” the Ukrainian believes that his opponent might just eat his words up during the rematch.
Usyk was recently in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports Boxing. In conversation, he was reminded about Fury’s words about their previous fight. “The next fight will be easy (for him). For me, my fight will be hard because Tyson Fury is a big man, a good boxer, with a good boxing IQ,”Usyk responded without breaking a stride. “But if Tyson says for him, it will be easy, ok, no problem. I see for Tyson Fury, I see for the eyes of Tyson Fury, it’s not easy. It will be hard, very, very hard. Tyson, don’t be afraid – I will not leave you alone.”
Usyk further bashed Fury’s claims about breaking his jaw during the fight. He mentioned that while Fury hurt him, he was unable to do any major damage. “You see Tyson Fury, he’s like a yeti. It’s hard. My face is good, beautiful,” he said.
“Last Punch Would Be Too Dangerous”
The ninth round of the fight saw Usyk gravely dominating Fury inside the ring. While he secured a knockdown against his opponent, the referee stepped in before he could dish out a potential knockout. While many members of the boxing community and fans took an issue with the referee’s actions, Usyk revealed that he did not hold any grudges. “For me, it doesn’t matter. Every referee, it’s a professional guy. The referee does his job. Maybe my last punch would be dangerous for Tyson Fury. It’s good,” he said. Usyk also added that people should not blame the referee for doing his job.
