After making it to the final at the 2024 Cincinnati Open for the first time, Jannik Sinner talked about him having to be more in shape and top physical condition to secure Grand Slam titles and other major victories. Sinner clinched his first Grand Slam title earlier this year at the 2024 Australian Open by defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final.
Sinner is the top seed at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati. He kicked off his campaign in the second round following a first-round bye. He defeated qualifier Alex Michelsen 6-4, 7-5 in the opening round and then advanced to the quarterfinals after his third-round opponent, Jordan Thompson, withdrew from their match due to a rib injury.
In the quarterfinal match, Jannik Sinner overcame sixth seed Andrey Rublev 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 and then triumphed over third seed Alexander Zverev 7-6(9), 5-7, 7-6(4) in three hours and seven minutes in the semifinals to secure his spot in the final.
During his post-match on-court interview, Sinner expressed that he was very happy with his win over Zverev. He also talked about the need to improve his physical health and fitness to compete at the highest level and claim Grand Slam titles and bigger titles.
“It means a lot to me. It’s a very different moment, what I’m going through, so I’m very happy about this result, in any case what’s coming tomorrow. The physical aspect, of course, I have to improve, because if I want to win Grand Slams or a bigger title, I have to be, for sure, more in shape,” Jannik Sinner said.
