The first bout in May was compelling over 12 rounds and saw both fighters have success, though it was Usyk who pulled away with a points victory after Fury was given a count in the ninth round.
That led to him becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion in almost 25 years, but soon after the conclusion of the fight he had to vacate the IBF belt as, instead of fighting his mandatory, he took the rematch with Fury. Only the Ring Magazine, WBC, WBO and WBA titles will be on the line in the rematch, but it’s revenge the Brit wants more than anything.
Ahead of the fight, ‘the last Englishman to beat Tyson’ has given his view on how the second fight might go. That is, as he recently pointed out in an interview with a smirk, Liverpudlian David Price, who got the better of ‘The Gypsy King’ in the senior national championships in 2006.
Speaking to iFL TV, the former heavyweight contender was asked if Fury can avenge his first professional loss.
“I always feel like Usyk has a little bit of extra in the reserves no matter who he fights. Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua – he just seems to be able to pull that but more out of the tank no matter who he’s facing.
The fact he beat [Fury] in the first fight has given him that boost to his confidence. He seems to have this aura about him now, he’s a superstar here as well as anywhere else so he will grow from that fight but it depends on how Fury grows from the fight as well. I’m the last Englishman to beat him and he came back alright from losing to me so he might come back again.”
Price and Fury traded words in the pro ranks but a fight never materialised. Fury even still flirted with the idea of a stadium fight back in 2022 despite Price being retired for three years at that stage.
It will be far from his radar now, though, with all the focus he can muster absolutely necessary for Usyk 2.
