Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner has revealed that he wasn’t well before he faced Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinal of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships on Tuesday.
Top seed Jannik Sinner suffered a disappointing loss against Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The five-set contest lasted four hours and one minute as the scoreline read 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 6-3.
With the win, Daniil Medvedev has reached the semi-finals of the grass court Major for the second consecutive time, where he’ll face his last year’s opponent, Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard defeated America’s Tommy Paul in four sets to secure a berth in the last four.
However, during the post-match press conference, Jannik Sinner revealed that he had not felt well since the morning. He stated that he was feeling exhausted and that playing in such a situation was tough for him. Sinner said (via Wimbledon Press), “This morning I already didn’t feel great. I had some problems and then with the fatigue. It was tough.”
He also lauded the Russian tennis star, saying, “Nothing to take away from Daniil. I think he played very smart, good tennis. That’s it. I went off the court. I actually didn’t want to go off. The physio told me it was better to take some time because he watched me and I didn’t seem in shape to play. I was struggling physically.”
Sinner also took a medical timeout during the match. Similarly, during the semifinals of the 2024 French Open, the Italian tennis star suffered from cramps on his forearms. He lost to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz in five sets in the semifinal fixture.
