Tyson Fury has a shot to avenge his first career loss when he rematches Oleksandr Usyk later this year, but recent video footage had some fans worried.
The Brit lost his undefeated record and WBC World Title to Usyk via split decision last month, suffering a knockdown in the ninth that sealed the deal.
Fury was quick to activate his contractual rematch clause with the now undisputed champion and many in the sport believe he has what it takes to turn it around given his real successes in the middle rounds of the fight.
Those feelings dropped slightly when video footage of him worse for wear in a local pub did the rounds on social media. There was some concern given his history of mental health issues and widespread condemnation for the person who filmed and posted the moment.
Speaking to Seconds Out, Fury’s friend and training partner Joseph Parker said he wasn’t worried about the incident.
“I feel like it’s just someone having a blow out, maybe got a bit too happy and had too many drinks. I’m sure everyone has been through the same thing.”
Parker – who is having a heavyweight resurgence of his own just now – then relayed the conversation, saying the Morecambe man was ‘laughing about it’ and ‘celebrating life.’ Fury said:
“I just had a few too many drinks. Now it’s time to get back to work and time to focus on the fight ahead on the 21st of December.”
Fury posted a training clip in the days following the video in a similar vein. He knows better than anyone that anything but laser-focus won’t be enough to topple Usyk, who showed yet another gear in the first fight to take the victory
