Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury had a close run fight in their historic undisputed battle on May 18 and thoughts have already turned to the rematch.
Both men had their own moments of success over 12 rounds, but it was Uysk who ultimately came out on top. He made the biggest dent in his opponent in the 9th round when he landed a huge shot followed by a sustained flurry that lead to Fury getting a count. ‘The Gypsy King’ rallied and was never blown away, which is why the rematch is being so hotly debated.
Speaking to AB Boxing News, former heavyweight legend Riddick Bowe thinks that the rematch will be different if Fury goes to the body of Usyk more.
“He has to punch him to the body. Tyson going to the body it would be totally different, he didn’t work his body. He just delivered the right hand. He’s got to move and jab, go to the body, move about.
It will be different.”
There has in the past been discussion about whether or not Usyk’s weakness is the body after one or two fighters had success with that tactic down at cruiserweight, and in their heavyweight world title fight last summer, Brit Daniel Dubois doubled him over with what was ruled to be a low blow. As of yet, no one has fully been able to prove the theory.
However he does it, Fury has vowed he will be back better than ever to regain his titles when the pair face off for a second time on December 21 in Saudi Arabia
