Tyson’s hands were certainly something else, thus it makes sense that he would be afraid of hurting his opponents.

On one of the episodes of his podcast “Hotboxin’ with Mike“, he revealed that he used to cry before his fights. Mike Tyson said, “I cried before fights because I was pretty scared, and by being scared, I’m really going to do something bad to this guy that his family is not going to like. Then, I’m going to be really guilty and feel bad at the end.”
Tyson’s hands were certainly something else, thus it makes sense that he would be afraid of hurting his opponents. Anyone who dared cross him was terrified by the speed and power he carried into the ring. Given that boxing isn’t a victimless sport, it seems from this comment that he was afraid of what he was capable of.
Mike Tyson reveals being disgusted by his younger self
During his appearance on Joe Rogan Experience, Mike Tyson openly expressed his thoughts on his younger self. He said, “I’ve got mixed feelings with that part of my life. … Not stuff that I don’t like about myself, and stuff, I just… I try to forget that stuff ‘cause I’m on a whole different pattern…I look at some of those press conferences a long time ago and what I’m saying to these guys, I would never talk to anybody like that. It’s just such a different world now, my world is so different now”.
Tyson has endured more than most people will ever encounter in a lifetime, from biting Evander Holyfield’s ear to declaring bankruptcy after racking up a debt of $60 million to going to jail for rape charges. Although Tyson’s life is considerably calmer now, he still finds it difficult to recall the insane times he had throughout his boxing career.
