Novak Djokovic praying for people of Turkey, Syria: Lord, protect people
Djokovic praying for all the people impacted by the devastaing Turkish-Syrian earthquake.
Novak Djokovic has expressed solidarity with all of the people affected and impacted by the tragic earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. In the early hours of Monday, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit southern Turkey and northern Syria.
According to the latest reports, the death toll in Turkey has soared to 5,894. In Syria, 1,932 have tragically lost their lives. Unfortunately, the fear is that the death toll could soar over 20,000. “Lord, protect the people and give them health (praying emoji),” Djokovic captioned his Instagram Story
Djokovic expresses solidarity with the people of Turkey, Syria
On Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared a state of state of emergency in the areas ravaged by the earthquake.
“We have decided to declare a state of emergency to ensure that operations are carried out rapidly. We are facing one of the biggest disasters not only of the history of the Turkish republic but also of our geography and the world,” Erdogan said in a statement
More than 7,000 people have been rescued from the rubble. “Every minute, every hour that passes, the chances of finding survivors alive diminishes. Numbers do not tell us about the perilous situation that many families now face, having lost everything [and] forced to sleep outside in the middle of winter,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, World Health Organization director-general.
The tragic scenes from Turkey and Syria are absolutely devastating. For the past two days, rescue teams from all over the world have been sent to Turkey and Syria to provide help and assistance. Djokovic is known as someone who is always willing to donate to a charity.
Djokovic expressing his solidarity with the people of Turkey and Syria should not be surprising and the 22-time Grand Slam champion will – if he hasn’t already – send a big donation to the Turkey and Syria victims. Meanwhile, Djokovic is currently having a well-deserved rest after winning a record 10th Australian Open title. Djokovic is expected to return to action later this month at the Dubai Tennis Championship.
